New Year’s Day . (January 1, celebrated as a holiday in many countries.

Twelfth Night . (The evening of Jan. 5, the eve of Twelfth Day, formerly observed with various festal celebrations).

Good Friday. (The Friday before Easter, observed as a commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus).

Washington’s Birthday. (20 February)

Easter. (A festival of the Christian Church commemorating the Resurrection of Christ: falls on the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox).

Memorial Day. (Decoration Day) . (The remembrance day of the fallen in the U.S.’ Civil War of 1861-65, in the Spanish-American and other wars).

Ascension Day. (The 40th day after Easter, when the Ascension of Christ into heaven is celebrated).

Whitsun( tide). (The week that begins with Whit Sunday, esp. the first three days).

Whit Sunday . (The seventh Sunday after Easter, observed as a feast in commemoration of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles 50 days after Easter. Also called: Pentecost).

All Saints’ Day . (A Christian festival celebrated on Nov. 1 to honour all the saints).

Independence Day. (The official name for the Fourth of July. A holiday in the United States, traditionally celebrated with fireworks: the day of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776).

Labor Day. ((In the U.S. and Canada) a public holiday in honor of labor: held on the first Monday in September).

Veterans’ Day (Armistice Day or Remembrance Sunday).

(The remembrance day of the fallen in the first and the second World Wars (celebrated on Sunday, towards the 11th of November, to the Armistice Day of 1918)).

Thanksgiving Day . (The public holiday in honor of the first colonists of Massachusetts: celebrated on the last Thursday in November).

Christmas Eve. (The evening or the whole day before Christmas Day).

Christmas Day. ( Dec. 25, observed as a day of secular celebrations when gifts and greetings are exchanged).

Boxing Day . (The first weekday after Christmas, observed as a holiday).

New Year’s Eve . (The evening of Dec. 31, often celebrated with parties).
