Имеется ввиду, что вы отправляетесь в англоязычную страну и живете там. Способ очень действенный. Когда вы находитесь в такой среде, то впитываете знание английского языка, как губка.
Можно изучить английский язык читая и изучая книги или самоучители. Их основная цель помочь вам выучить английский самостоятельно, без сторонней помощи. Иными словами берете книжку и учите язык по данной там инструкции. А какая это будет инструкция, уже зависит от автора самоучителя или книги.

When you are in this surrounding, you absorb English readily. You can learn English reading and studing books or teach-yourself book. Their main aim is to help in learning English without assistance. In other words you take a book and learn English following an instruction. The instructions can be different depending on the author of the book or the teach-yourself book .
