Некоторые страны развязывают их чтобы улучшить своё экономическое положение и ослабить таковое в другой стране. Кроме того, причиной вооружённых конфликтов становятся террористические акты религиозных групп. Тем не менее, войны и военный конфликты, как правило, стоят жизни многих людей и оказываются разрушительными. Армии бомбардируют и обстреливают территории, разрушают города и деревни. Солдаты и мирное население несут тяжёлые потери. Многие из них становятся ранеными, убитыми, пленниками или заложниками. Некоторые люди числятся без вести пропавшими. Часто мирные жители покидают свои дома и становятся беженцами. В таких ситуациях только мирное урегулирование конфликтов может сохранить мир.
