The bridge was built at the place where (possibly since Roman times[1]) one after another, the bridges were built under one common name — London bridge. Until 1750 it was the only place in London where there was a bridge over the Thames[1]. Modern bridge built on the site of its predecessor, opened in 1831[2][~ 1]. The modern bridge was designed in 1967 by engineer Harold N. King opened with the participation of Queen Elizabeth II on 16 March 1973[3]. The bridge is adjacent to tower bridge in the West and the railway bridge Canon street to the East.
