A joke is about Pat who worked and lived with his wife in England. One day, they have received a telegram which stated that the mother was ill. The wife went to Ireland to see her. Pat deceided to write a letter to his wife but for that he needed priest's help. The priest agreed and they began to write. At the end of the letter the priest asked if Pam wanted to say any more. The man asked to apologize for his illiterac and a bad handwritng.

The joke - тут конкретная смешная история имеется ввиду, полагаю артикль должен быть определённый
просто received без have
в этом же предложении концовку лучше "a telegram which started with a notification about Pat's mother's illness" или чья там мама заболела я понять не могу
but for that he needed priest's help тут местами поменять: but he needed priest's help for that
if Pam wanted to say any more. слово any лишнее
and a bad handwritng. - артикль "a" здесь не нужен
